In 1995, the La Verne-San Dimas Educational Foundation sponsored its first annual Charity Golf Tournament at the San Dimas Canyon Golf Club, with a total of 44 registered golfers. Since that first effort, the tournament has grown in popularity and size, and golfers from around Southern California gather to help support the Foundation's charitable efforts.

In 2007, the tournament was named the Ed Jones Memorial Golf Tournament, in honor of long-time Bonita Unified School District board member Ed Jones, who passed away in 2006.

In May of each year, the Foundation holds an annual Awards Ceremony, when students from all thirteen schools are honored with Perseverance  Awards, scholarships are awarded to selected high school graduates, and the Ed Jones Act Of Kindness honorees are presented.
